Dear [ Name of MP]

The Kept Animals Bill

My address [ Insert address including postcode]

As Parliament returns from summer recess, I anticipate that a significant proportion of parliamentary time will be allocated to the increases in energy costs.

As you may be aware, the Government were very vocal about their Action for Animals proposal, a proposal that saw the introduction of the Animal Welfare (Kept Animals) Bill on 8th June, 2021.

This extensive Bill seeks to address several animal welfare concerns and loopholes, such as closing the loophole that currently enables dogs with cropped ears to be imported into the UK, a ban on keeping primates without a licence and introduces many conditions regarding the keeping of primates, increasing powers regarding livestock worrying, the introduction of a specific offence regarding pet dog theft and tightening conditions for the import of puppies.

This Bill has been carried forward but has been delayed, awaiting time being allocated for this heavily supported Bill progressing passed the Report Stage.

As a constituent, I would be grateful if you would raise the need to progress this Bill with the Secretary of State for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and the Leader of the House.

If we truly are a country of animal lovers, this significant Bill should be firmly on the parliamentary agenda and a clear path created for progression.

Yours sincerely,
